This is where it gets a little confusing. Many blood pressure medications, especially commonly prescribed ones called diuretics, can affect your potassium levels. But while some diuretics tend to lower potassium levels, others have the opposite effect. And some ACE inhibitors, like lisinopril (Prinvil, Zestril) or ramipril (Altace), can also increase potassium levels. The same goes for common painkillers such as ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin) or naproxen (Aleve).
